Hilde Eggermont is freshwater biologist (PhD, 2004), since 2013 – the Strategic Coordinator of the Belgian Biodiversity Platform, a national science-policy interface for biodiversity. Her day-to-day activities focus largely on European and global initiatives, and mobilization of Belgian expertise, knowledge and stakeholders therein. She is a Vice-Chair of the BiodivERsA network, and the newly elected Chair and Coordinator of its successor: the European Partnership “Rescuing biodiversity to safeguard life on Earth”. She also acts Belgian Focal Point and HoD for the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and as alternate IPBES Bureau Member. Other duties include her role in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as Belgian Focal Point, Chair of the European Policy Advisory Group, and Councillor.
